Garrett M. Goto
A first year master’s student, Garrett graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Hydrologic Science and Policy with an emphasis in biology and ecology and a minor in geology. During his time as an undergraduate Garrett supplemented his academics with work in habitat restoration and stream water sampling. Following graduation he pursued a variety of natural science positions including contract work on Vandenberg Air Force Base, Santa Cruz Island, and in Moss Landing. Garrett also took advantage of volunteer opportunities performing necropsies on seabirds with Oikonos group and sea otter necropsies with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Garrett capitalized on his experiences in natural sciences to seize an opportunity handling technical analysis and business development for an international agriculture company. With his knowledge in the field of food production, Garrett is specializing in Coastal and Marine Resource Management at the Bren School to focus his studies on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture production. As a long time enthusiast of recreational fishing and spearfishing, Garrett intends to meld his love of fishing, experience in the food industry, and education from the Bren School to engage with organizations that aim to promote reliably sustainable seafood.
