Matthew M. Warham
A first-year master’s student, Matt graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts double major in Environmental Studies and Global Studies. During his undergraduate career, Matthew conducted research for UC Santa Barbara’s Marine Science Institute on numerous oceanographic and biological projects, specifically ocean acidification. This included working as a research diver at sites throughout Santa Barbara County and the Channel Islands. Matthew then relocated to San Diego where he began teaching Marine Biology at Sea Camp San Diego and assisting in aquarium collections and research projects with UC San Diego’s Scripps Institute of Oceanography. After leaving San Diego, Matthew spent a year and a half on the island of Grenada in the Caribbean. In Grenada, he managed a 28 acre, 18th century plantation estate for production in cocoa, nutmeg, and numerous other tropical fruits and vegetables. This experience living in Grenada enhanced Matthew’s passion for the marine environment as he witnessed the need for properly managed fisheries and protected areas. Matthew is specializing in Coastal Marine Resources Management with the hopes of being able to actively aid in fisheries management in the Caribbean and other developing nations.
